Evening of Thanks for Lifeboat Service

30 October 2007

An evening Service of Recognition for the Lifeboat Service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, located at 141 Langney Road, on Sunday 4th November beginning at 5.00pm.  The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mary Pooley, and Councillors will be in attendance.

The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mary Pooley, says “I am honoured to have been invited to attend this service in recognition of the fantastic job carried out by the Eastbourne Lifeboat Crew. I hope the town will turn out and show it’s support for this organisation that is invaluable for safety at sea.”

This year the event will follow a different format from previous years, organisers hope that this will encourage even more people to attend the Service. The event will begin at the earlier time of 5.00pm with special guests the Sheringham Band of the The Salvation Army, with their Corps Officer, Major Adrian Maddern.

The Salvation Army in Sheringham have very close links with the local branch of the RNLI and many of the bandsmen have been, or are, members of the Lifeboat Crew.  This Band has an excellent local reputation for their work in the town and, having visited Eastbourne previously, is sure to be of great help with this annual event.

This Lifeboat event has taken place for over 40 years. It has been extremely well supported in the past and included members of all the voluntary sectors.  It was started to recognise the work of the volunteers who man the lifeboats and, traditionally, a church environment was chosen to do this. It is hoped that this year’s Service, with it’s special guests, will continue the success of the event.
