3 October 2007
A free one day interactive event will give people of all ages the chance to find out more about the work of the construction industry and possible career opportunities.
The outdoor exhibition will take place at Eastbourne Railway Station in the canopied area adjacent to Platform 3 on Saturday 13 October 2007, 10am till 4pm. Free parking is available at the Junction Road car park. Just get your ticket stamped at the expo.
The event will give people the opportunity to:
- Get practical hands on experience on a number of trades
- Discuss career options with educational organisations and local businesses
- Gain a broader understanding of the construction industry and the skills needed to achieve within the sector
- Explore sustainable building systems
- Learn about the Eastbourne Construction Partnership and what is happening in the town
Eastbourne Borough Council, Spokesperson for Economic Development Councillor Steve Wallis says, “There will be over £400 million worth of construction projects in Eastbourne over the next few years. We need to make sure local businesses are ready to benefit.”
This event is aimed at all ages and all skills levels with opportunities to train or retrain. The average age of a builder is 45 and many skilled workers are retiring every year. The south east area alone needs 30,000 new workers. This opens opportunities for specialist skills, building trades; professional skills like planning and architecture; and support work to these areas.
