The Mayor of Eastbourne will be taking to the road in a Hybrid car that runs on a petrol engine with an electric motor. The new car will be more economical and better for the environment with 40% less emissions than other cars.
Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mary Pooley, says, “In my position of Mayor of Eastbourne, I represent the people of the town and with that in mind if we want the people of the town to be green then I should lead the way.”
The new car will carry the Mayor to all of her official engagements. When travelling at slow speeds the car runs solely on an electric motor with the petrol engine only taking over when speed increases or the power in the battery drops.
The Mayor of Eastbourne on average attends more than 300 engagements a year in the town and in other towns. This change to the new hybrid car helps to demonstrate how keen the council is to help the environment and lead by example.
