Lottery Funding Brings New Life

Official Opening
24 May 2007

Six months after winning £50,000 of Big Lottery Fund Money the new look Archery Multi Use Games area has now been completed.  On the 30th May at 10am the Mayor of Eastbourne will officially cut the ribbon to open the new facility.

The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Mrs Mary Pooley says, “It is amazing to see how this recreation ground which was tired and underused has been transformed and it has only been possible because of the people of Eastbourne voting for it.”

The redeveloped facility has been designed for people to be able to play football, netball, basketball, mini tennis and even inline skating.  Local young people will be on hand to try out the new facilities after the official opening.

The site now has new fencing, playing surface, line markings, signage and is floodlit to enable sport to be played in the evening.

The facility was only able to be redeveloped following residents voting for Eastbourne to win over a project in Laughton. The competition was run in October 2006 by the Big Lottery Fund, ITV and the Daily Mirror. The project has been supported financially by the Eastbourne Crime Reduction Partnership and Eastbourne Borough Council.

Construction work was undertaken by Milhams who erected the modern day euroguard fencing, Leisure Surfaces who applied line markings and court colourings and Hailsham Roadways constructed the new playing surface.
