The New administration at Eastbourne Borough Council is now more representative of the population of Eastbourne and proves that Eastbourne is becoming a town for younger people. More than two thirds of all the Councillors are below retirement age, with many of the New Councillors being aged in their 20s to 50s. Just under half of the Councillors are now women and many hold down a full time job as well as being a Councillor.
Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt says, “The new administration opens a new chapter in the history of our town. We believe strongly in Council should engage with the whole community of Eastbourne. The Council has exciting plans for the next four years and we look forward to working in partnership with both community and voluntary organisations.”
The new mix of Councillors highlights the diverse range of backgrounds, cultures and disabilities across the town. The new Lady Mayor, Councillor Mary Pooley, is a Catholic whilst the newly appointed deputy Mayor Councillor Harun Miah, is of Bangladeshi origin.
The Council have appointed Councillor Andrew Goodwin as the Disability Champion for the Town. Andrew is himself profoundly deaf and works for the Link Charity.
Eastbourne Council will continue to work closely with access groups and ethnic minority groups including the Eastbourne Cultural Communities Network.
