Ronnie Corbett OBE, one of Britain's best loved and well known television personalities and the internationally acclaimed soprano Dame Felicity Lott are coming to Eastbourne to perform in a gala concert organised by St Bede’s School to support the New Towner Trust’s fundraising for the new Art Gallery in Eastbourne’s Cultural Centre.
The celebrities will join around 400 children and young people showing off their talents at the Congress Theatre on Wednesday March 14 2007 at 7pm. The concert has been organised by St Bede’s School, and will feature pupils from Pre-Prep and Prep schools who will present an exciting night of dance, choral singing, drama, orchestral music and sing-alongs.
Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor Ian Lucas says, “It is great to see St Bede’s organising this fundraising event for this important Eastbourne project, which will raise the town’s national profile as a cultural destination. I look forward to other East Sussex organisations and businesses rising to the fundraising challenge.”
The new art gallery designed by Rick Mather Architects is due to be complete at the end of this year, opening to the public in spring 2008, providing a new home for the nationally-renowned Towner Art Collection. The new building next to the Congress Theatre, will also house international-standard galleries, conference and exhibition halls, community and education rooms, a café and gift shop.
Julian Martyr, chairman of the New Towner Trust, said: “The Trust is absolutely delighted that St Bede’s School is helping us raise funds for the new art gallery in Eastbourne. The concert is a fantastic demonstration of the school’s support for this exciting visual arts project. The New Towner Trust is very grateful to all those involved, especially the performers and organisers of the show.”
