The Band of the Honourable Artillery Company are set to take the stage at Eastbourne Bandstand, in a special return visit this September.
With 11 performances, the band will play from 9 to 14 September, filling the gap left by the Central Band of the Royal British Legion’s recent cancellation.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said “I am delighted the Band of the Honourable Artillery Company have stepped in at this late stage. They last played here as part of the Bands Alive week in September 2005 and were hugely popular and I am sure once again will prove popular with audiences at the Bandstand this year.”
The band kicks off a fortnight of military music which sees the Band of the Guards Association following on from 16 – 21 September.
Part of September’s new look concert programme - its busiest in recent years – include further performances throughout the month with bands such as the Band of the Hampshire Constabulary, East Sussex Concert band and various silver and brass bands from around the region. Also for the first time at The Bandstand, the programme includes a Shirley Bassey tribute on 7 September with new Kylie and Take That tributes also planned during the year.
The new look programme is part of this year’s extended season of six extra weeks following 2006 audiences voting with their feet and increasing attendance by a third. The successful format returns once again with weekly concerts of 1812 Fireworks, Big Band nights, Tribute nights, Afternoon on Broadway, Rock n Roll and Sunday Night on the Proms.
The Bandstand opens its doors again soon on Easter Sunday with Sunday afternoon and Bank Holiday Monday concerts during May. However Abba Fever kicks off the official start to the season on 1 June.
