Former Coach & Lorry Park, Wartling Road

07 March 2007

George Wimpey’s proposals for the former Coach and Lorry Park site in Wartling Road were approved by the Planning Committee this week.

The scheme is a good example of the developer fully meeting their obligations to the local community by providing over £9 million worth of community benefits as part of the development.

The scheme provides for 225 homes in a range of types and sizes from two bedroom flats to four bedroom houses. 65 of these homes will be reserved for those who would normally find it difficult to get on the property ladder, including young people, families on low incomes, essential workers and disabled households.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for Planning & Economic Regeneration, Cllr Patrick Warner said “I am really pleased that this exciting development will now go ahead, not only will this important gateway to our town’s wonderful seafront be much improved but we will be able to offer more local people on our housing register the chance to get a modern and affordable new home with excellent community facilities provided from day one”.

New residents in this development will also be encouraged to use environmentally friendly modes of transport when they first move in. Key local transport provider, Eastbourne Buses will be supplying every resident with a ‘Welcome Pack’ which will include route maps, timetables and guides and it is hoped that ‘Real Time Information’ displays will also be provided at the adjacent bus stops to make using the bus even easier.
