Eastbourne Launches Tennis Cocktail Tributes

Cocktail

16th June 2007

Tennis fans at next weeks International Women’s Open in Eastbourne can look forward to an exciting new cocktail range, paying tribute to former champions at Britain’s biggest women’s tennis tournament.

On sale at the event and across the resort, the themed thirst quenchers include the ‘Martini’ Navratilova a tribute to the 11 times singles winner, awarded Freedom of the Borough by Eastbourne in 2005.  The ‘Sanchez’ Slammer, ‘Rubin’ Runner and ‘Davenport’ Daiquiri also join the line up, with non-alcoholic versions available too.

Hotels, bars and restaurants across Eastbourne have joined plans to sell the range, with the five star Grand Hotel Cocktail Bar even creating their own twist - a champagne and pimms based ‘Grand’ Slam.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism & Environment, Councillor Steve Wallis said “It is great to see tennis fever spread across the town.  Eastbourne is a fantastic location to relax with a cocktail by the sea or enjoy a glamorous day out with hospitality and world class tennis.”

Hotels taking part already include the Chatsworth, Oban and Camelot Lodge hotels, and new hotel ‘17 Wilmington Square’ also plan to offer a free tennis cocktail to each guest on arrival.

Flamenco’s restaurant plan to serve cocktails with their tapas, and Hudson’s Wine Bar and Flava will both be adding the drinks to their extensive cocktail ranges and showing off their expert flaring skills.

The tournament, the biggest women’s tennis event in the UK, returns to Devonshire Park with plenty of glamour from complimentary nail treatments and goody bags on Ladies Day to a new series of Tennis Rocks evening concerts.

World number one Justine Henin returns to defend her title and leads a star studded line up including Amelie Mauresmo, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Nadia Petrova.

The International Women’s Open returns from 16 – 23 June.  To book tickets telephone 01323 412000 or treat someone special with exclusive hospitality, telephone 415437.
