The Central Band of the Royal British Legion have cancelled their week long appearance in Eastbourne Bandstand’s concert programme.
The Band, which had been booked as a highlight of the growing September concert programme, contacted Eastbourne Borough Council last week to cancel their dates due to lack of band members.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said “We are very disappointed that the Central Band of the Royal British Legion have had to cancel their dates. We were very keen to keep them as a highlight in our programme, booking them as early as six months ago. They have now however contacted us to say they regrettably cannot get enough band members together to put on the performance as they had hoped.”
“Having expanded the concert programme through to the end of September to cope with growing demand, this is a key time for us, so we are currently working hard to find a suitable replacement and very much hope to welcome the band back again next season.”
Eastbourne Borough Council have expanded the concert programme this year by six weeks following a bumper year in 2006 which saw audiences increase by a third, thanks to themed evenings such as tribute nights, classical and rock n roll.
The band were due to appear with nine performances from 9 – 14 September as part of a month of military music highlights which also includes the Band of the Guards Association from 16 – 21 September.
