The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne along with the Mayor of Medway will present a Humane Society Award to an Eastbourne Resident, Mr Robert Billich. The Presentation will take place in the Mayor’s Parlour on Thursday 8 February 2007.
The Mayor of Eastbourne Councillor Colin Belsey says, “This will be the second time this month that I have been asked to present such an award, it goes to show that there are a lot of good people out there willing to risk their lives for others. I congratulate Mr Billich for his thoughtful actions.”
Mr Billich was on day trip to Rochester near the river Medway when he saw a boy called Craig fall from a river boat and then rescued him from drowning. Mr Billich has received an award before – he rescued a child from drowning in Eastbourne in 1980. He also has a history with the Lifeboats and saved the lives of many others as part of a Lifeboat team.
Both Mayor’s will present Robert Billich with his award in the presence of Craig and his parents Miss Buss and Mr Oilphant.
