“If there was an extra award category in the BAFTA’s for best supporting town, Eastbourne would get my vote”, praise indeed from the Chief Executive of Screen South, Jo Nolan, who spoke to a capacity audience at the advanced screening of ‘Notes on a Scandal’, held at the Curzon Cinema in Eastbourne last Thursday.
The event, organised by the Borough Council working in partnership with BAFTA and Screen South, the SE Regional agency of the UK Film Council, saw the Curzon filled with VIP’s including BAFTA members, invited guests, competition winners and individuals who work hard with the Council’s Film Liaison Unit to ensure Eastbourne remains a film friendly town.
Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor Ian Lucas, says, “The Council’s full colour location guide produced in 2006 has put the town on the map as one of the country’s best film locations. Filming also adds value to the town not only in monetary terms when the film crews stay in our hotels and spend money in our shops and restaurants but also boosting our tourism and raising our reputation far beyond other towns”.
Jenny Cooper, Film Commissionaire for Screen South, promoting the use of location and facilities in the region, says, “Eastbourne’s film liaison unit will go out of its way to accommodate most enquiries and its success is paying dividends. It helps to make our job a much easier and more pleasurable one”.
