Planning for the festive season is well underway for most of us and one important arrangement to remember is what to do with all your extra waste. Calendars are being delivered to all households next week with details of recycling and refuse collections over the holiday period as well as the rest of 2008. Any disruptions to arrangements have been kept to a minimum.
Our indulgences at this time of year invariably mean extra waste, but don’t fear having to throw it all in your wheelie bin. Real Christmas Trees can be taken to any of Eastbourne’s Saturday morning Green Garden Waste bring sites, but remember to remove all of the lights and decorations first.
With everybody receiving an average of 17 Christmas Cards each year, a massive 1.6 million cards will be delivered within Eastbourne. You can once again recycle your used Christmas Cards in aid of The Woodland Trust at Marks and Spencer, Tesco and WH Smith in Eastbourne. Alternatively, they can be recycled at cardboard banks at the main bring sites around the town.
Over the Christmas holiday in the UK we produce over 1,250 million more cans and glass bottles, and throw away 80,000 tonnes of unwanted clothes. Remember to put all these extra glass bottles and jars, tins and cans, paper and unwanted textiles in your Green Recycling Box for collection. Also tetra cartons, cardboard, plastic bottles and used batteries can be disposed of at many of the towns bring sites.
Cabinet Spokesperson for the Environment, Cllr Steve Wallis says “It’s great to see that recycling initiatives adapt to meet our needs over the Christmas period when many of us will be producing more waste than usual. I hope that people are as keen as I am to recycle their Christmas waste, and we are trying to make it as easy as possible for residents to get the New Year off to a greener start.”
