Travel in Style to Airbourne

1 August 2007

The International Airshow Airbourne takes off in the beautiful south coast town of Eastbourne from 16-19 August and spectators travelling from many parts of the country can arrive in style thanks to two special trains being run by Kingfisher Railtours.

Visitors from the Midlands and Thames Valley can enjoy a top quality travel and dining experience en route, before experiencing sky-high excitement at the airshow itself. The packed flying programme includes the breath-taking aerobatic displays of the Red Arrows, old favourites like the Spitfire and other warbirds, the awesome power of military fast jets, and the Falcons parachute team, all against the backdrop of Eastbourne’s stunning coastline.

With plenty of entertainment on the ground too, from children’s entertainment to evening concerts, Airbourne is the perfect day out for enthusiasts and families alike.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism & Environment, Councillor Steve Wallis said “Airbourne is a huge event, attracting 800,000 people from far and wide. We want to make travelling to the event as easy as possible, and these trains offer a great way to arrive in true style.”

The train services are running on Thursday 16 and Saturday 18 August. The diesel trains use Kingfishers own 'Wessex Carriages', all painted in the traditional Pullman style livery of lined umber and cream, with Thursday’s train being hauled by one of the few remaining EWS Class 37 heritage diesel locomotives.  As well as a buffet car, silver service breakfast and evening meal dining is available provided by “Rail Gourmet” – Royal Train caterers to Her Majesty the Queen.

The train service on Thursday 16 August starts from Derby and picks up at Long Eaton (Nottingham), Loughborough, Leicester, Market Harborough, Kettering, Wellingborough and Bedford. The service on Saturday 18 August leaves from Birmingham New Street and stops at Solihull, Warwick Parkway, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Bicester North, Haddenham & Thame, Princes Risborough and High Wycombe.
