Airbourne fans need not wait until August for their next airshow buzz, as a new DVD has been placed on sale including unseen footage of the 2006 show.
The 1 hour 40 minute DVD includes unseen cockpit footage taken by flying displays over Eastbourne during the show. A special interactive in-cockpit feature also means viewers can switch between crowd, cockpit and helmet-cam footage during some of the displays.
Eastbourne Borough Council Director of Economy, Tourism & Environment, Norman Kinnish said “We are constantly looking at new ways to both fund and improve the show and last year we worked with a film company in producing a high quality DVD that as an aircraft enthusiast myself, I know people will love.
This is the only opportunity at Airbourne to experience the thrill of acrobatic flying through the eyes of a top pilot – an opportunity not to be missed.”
The Falcons provide their unique view of the teams freefall and arena landing - all through the eyes of their helmet-cam, and the Utterly Butterly wing walkers show us their wing-mounted camera view of waving crowds as they swoop past the pier.
The film has also been shot from many vantage points on the ground and includes unique views of condensation and vortices around the jets and the rare sight of anti-missile flares being fired from aircraft.
The footage includes a total of 27 different display teams, including the Red Arrows against the backdrop of a glorious blue sky and the moving Sunset Ceremony and fireworks. The film comes with a music soundtrack and commentary along with the option to enjoy the sound of the aircraft without music and narrative.
Airbourne returns from 16 – 19 August. The DVD costs £15.99 and is available from the Tourist Information Centre in Cornfield Road or by mail order, telephone 0871 663 0031 or order online at www.airbournedvd.co.uk.
