Council To Curb Traders And Others Handing Out Advertising Material In The Street

Cabinet at its meeting on the 6 September resolved to introduce controls to deter businesses and others from handing out printed advertising material and from fixing it to car windscreens, with it often later to be found discarded in the street.

Councillor David Elkin said “Eastbourne is renowned for being a very clean town which is much admired and commented on by residents and many visitors.  This nature of environmental crime is now legislated for and we want to give our staff the right tools to enable them to maintain the quality that we all want”.  Councillor Elkin went on to say “When the streets are designated anyone handing out advertising material of this nature will face the prospect of a £75 fixed penalty fine.”
