An evening service of recognition for the lifeboat service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, located at 141 Langney Road, on Sunday 5 November beginning at 6.00p.m. The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Colin Belsey and Councillors will be in attendance.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Colin Belsey, says “I have attended this service for many years as a Councillor and I am more than delighted to attend this year as Mayor especially as the Lifeboats are my charity for my term of office. I hope the town will turn out and support this very enjoyable service at the Salvation Army Citadel and show the support I know we all feel towards the Eastbourne Lifeboat Crew and the fantastic job the all do for us.”
During the evening there will be speakers and the Salvation Army band and songsters will be performing music with a nautical flavour. The event is open to the general public and the evening’s offering will be donated to the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
The Mayor will be reading a lesson. Romans 10 Verse 5-13. He will also be speaking for a few minutes on why he chose the RNLI as his Charity.
This Lifeboat event has taken place for over 40 years. It has been extremely well supported in the past and included members of all the voluntary sectors. It was started to recognize the work of the volunteers who man the lifeboats and, traditionally, a church environment was chosen to do this. Although fewer members of the voluntary sector have attended in recent years, it is still regarded by the Mayor and civic party as one of the highlights of the year.
