The Hampden Park Local Action Team was set up in April by the Neighbourhood Policing Team. The Action Team brings together members of key agencies including Eastbourne Borough Council, Sussex Police, Housing Associations, the Youth Development Service and Neighbourhood Watch to tackle local concerns and Anti-Social Behaviour issues.
Chief inspector Bob Gough says, “This is yet another example of local communities taking action to address local issues. Well done. As District Policing Commander I re-iterate that the Police will work with anyone who is determined to reduce crime and yobbery and improve the quality of life in the Borough.”
If you have any issues you wish bought up at this Local Action Team please contact your local Councillor, via the Town Hall, Eastbourne.
In Hampden Avenue residents raised concerns surrounding large groups of young people congregating in the street, and general anti-social behaviour. Ongoing partnership working, bought together by the Local Action Team proved a success, one that could not have worked without the co-operation of the local residents and the Residents Association. The residents were influential in combating the problem, organising the use of Highfield School field for young people to use for recreational use. This has now developed in organised football coaching sessions funded by the Eastbourne Crime Reduction Partnership. Over the winter months, additional funding will provide young people with a flood lit facility to continue training. Alongside this, the partnership has also funded increased police patrols and work by the Anti-Social Behaviour Officer which has resulted in a marked improvement for local residents.
The Eastbourne Crime Reduction Partnership comprises of representatives from Eastbourne Borough Council, Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and the Primary Care Trust.
If you are aged between 14 and 16 years of age, live in the local area and want to get involved in the football sessions please contact Eastbourne Borough Council’s Community Services Department on 415403.
