Eastbourne Borough Council has agreed to adopt the Eastbourne Construction Training and Employment Charter drawn up by the Eastbourne Construction Partnership.
Their aims are to train and recruit local people to take up employment in this sector which in turn will reduce unemployment and increase local incomes, and to encourage local businesses to tender for the local work and sub contract locally.
Eastbourne Borough Council’s cabinet spokesperson for Environment, Tourism & Economy, Councillor David Elkin, says, “It is calculated that there is more than £300 million in construction contract value available for local people and local businesses over the next five years. This is an excellent initiative to encourage both business growth and good working practice in the construction industry.”
Local projects include, Town Centre Regeneration Scheme, Council stock to reach Decent Homes Standard, All Saints Hospital, town centre Coach Station and the Wartling Road Coach Park.
