Councillor Graham Marsden has been appointed as Eastbourne Borough Council’s Champion for Learning and Skills. The new post has been created to reinforce the Council’s desire for closer links with those involved in the delivery of learning and skills within the local community.
Before retiring from a management role at Cavendish School, Councillor Marsden worked in the education sector for almost 40 years. He said, “Raising skill levels is vital, both for individual students and Eastbourne’s community as a whole. The future success of the local economy is dependent on broadening its base and ensuring that the relevant skills are in place for all concerned. To deliver that success it is important that the Council’s strategic plans and the work carried out in the educational sector are compatible. My role will be to listen to those working within the statutory, further and higher education areas and help ensure that crucial objectives are achieved.”
Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Lucas says, “There is no-one better suited to such a role as Cllr Graham Marsden. His experience in this area is something that the whole town can benefit from, and I am delighted he has put himself forward for this role. Graham will have a direct link to the cabinet, and will forge strong links with those that work in the education sector in Eastbourne.”
