Berkeley Homes’ proposals for the All Saints Hospital site in Meads were approved by the Council’s Planning Committee this week.
The scheme includes:
- Conversion of the Grade II* listed hospital to provide 53 apartments
- Retention of the Grade II* listed chapel
- Conversion of lodge into a dwelling
- New single storey dwelling
- 52 new apartments in the grounds and
- landscaped public open space
The planning permission was granted subject to Berkeley Homes entering into a legal agreement to provide significant financial contributions towards affordable housing, future maintenance of the public open space and chapel, off-site highway works and a local parking scheme.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Planning and Economic Regeneration, Councillor Patrick Warner says “The Council has been committed to securing a long term future for All Saints Hospital since learning of its likely closure over a decade ago. The proposed development is welcomed as it will ensure the listed hospital building and chapel are preserved and will secure a long term future for this historic seafront site.”
