New Initiative Grant helps fund sign

Cheque Presentation
20 November 2006

A new initiative grant has helped raise the final amount of money needed by the friends of Princes Park for their new sign.  When the friends of the park formed one of their main aims was to replace the iron arch that went over the park entrance.  Fund raising found half of the four thousand pounds needed.  A new Initiative Grant was successful giving the group £1000 and the Council’s parks and gardens department will finance the remainder of the work.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Health and Community Services, Councillor Sandie Howlett says, “The original arch was erected in the park in the 1930s at the main entrance at the junction of Channel View Road and Royal Parade.  It was removed from the park after years of corrosion in salt-laden winds had weakened the structure beyond repair.  The new arch will look as the original did when it was first installed.”

Groups are now able to apply for a third round of grants as part of the New Initiatives Grant 2006/07.

Applications will be welcome from individuals or groups who are either setting up a new project/scheme or who are planning a one-off event.  Applications must be not-for-profit and of benefit to the communities of Eastbourne.
