What do people do when things are going wrong? They usually complain. Sometimes taking time to talk about the issues in plain language is all that is needed to create a good relationship and good understanding.
The first week in November each year is National Compact Week, a time when people in the voluntary and community sector can talk with statutory colleagues about their relationship with each other and the framework that helps them to work together.
A ‘Compact’ event, sponsored by the Eastbourne Strategic Partnership (ESP) was held at the Town Hall on 1 November with 26 people from these sectors attending.
Participants were asked to think about when and how they work with each other and to discuss how the framework can help improve relationships and services to the public. They also looked at changes needed to the way we work and how we could all implement these so that the Compact becomes part of our working life.
Councillor Ian Lucas, Chairman of the ESP said “Both the ESP and Eastbourne Borough Council have adopted the Compact. Events like this are important because to make it work, it is vital that the Compact is known, used, understood and followed throughout all local public bodies and the voluntary and community sector.”
