Eastbourne has appointed its youngest Mayoress in the town’s history. The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Colin Belsey, will be accompanied on his engagements by his 19 year old daughter, Miss Anna Belsey, who will be his Mayoress.
Eastbourne Mayor, Councillor Colin Belsey, says, “I am delighted that Anna has stepped in as my Mayoress for the coming year. I appreciate that she also has her own life to lead and for that reason I, and I hope outside organisations will understand, that she will not be able to attend every function. I know Anna will do all she can to support her Dad and I look forward to her being at my side and bringing a youthful approach to the year ahead”.
Miss Belsey will juggle the role of Mayoress with her full time job as an Artwork Originator for one of Eastbourne’s pharmaceutical companies as well as spending time socialising with her friends in and around Eastbourne.
Anna says, “I have yet to meet a 19 year old who can say they’re Mayoress of their town, so I feel incredibly honoured to take on the role plus, I think it is excellent publicity for a town that has sometimes been stereotyped for having only older residents. I am looking forward to the year ahead and although being Mayor and Mayoress is a very traditional duty, hopefully I can bring some youthful interest and excitement to it.”
