Own a Rented Property in Eastbourne?

National rules relating to the need for Landlords to obtain a licence to rent properties of a certain type can be obtained from Eastbourne Borough Council.

Landlords can find out more as Eastbourne Borough Council is holding a Landlord Awareness Event at the Town Hall on Thursday 22 June at 3pm and again at 5.30pm when all your questions can be answered.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Health and Community Services Councillor Sandie Howlett says, “We have always preferred to work with landlords to make sure they provide safe and healthy accommodation for tenants and that is what the 22 June event is aiming at, equally we have new laws to administer which will mean that certain landlords must now either license their premises or face fines of up to £20,000.”

If you own a property of three storeys or more, which is rented to five or more people who share basic facilities then it is very likely that you will need to apply for a HMO (house in multiple occupation) licence for this property.  New legislation means that fines can be severe for those property owners who do not apply for a licence by 3 July.

Spaces are limited but the information available is not.  If you want to find out more then ring Nicki Baxendale on 415350 to reserve your free place for the 22 June or discuss Licensing HMO properties with Peter Gaimster on 01323 415329.
