Eastbourne Borough Council’s recently published full colour Film Location Guide has proved to be a great hit throughout the UK. Since April, when the guide was sent out to more than 500 film companies and location managers the Council’s Film Liaison Unit has received an unprecedented number of location enquiries.
Councillor Ian Lucas, Leader of the Council, says, “I am delighted that the new filming guide has been so successful. Not only has this put the town on the map as one of the country’s best film locations, but also increases the local spend when crews stay in our hotels, and visit local shops and restaurants. Another bonus is that visitors are now coming to Eastbourne to see the locations that have been featured in recent major films and television series.”
The Film Liaison Unit prides itself on the excellent “one stop shop” service that it offers. Not only does the unit agree the locations and filming contracts, but also arranges parking permits, provides stewards and extras to organising helicopter landing sites, and even the emptying of toilets in the stars trailers!
Recent scenes shot in Eastbourne can be seen in Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire, Notes on Scandal, to be premiered this autumn, starring Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blanchette, Children of Men with Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine, Miss Marple, Foyles War and Little Britain to name but a few.
Jenny Cooper, Film Commissionaire Screen South, says “We are very pleased to be working with the Eastbourne Film Liaison Unit to promote these great locations in this relatively unexplored area. The Film Liaison Unit will go out of their way to accommodate most enquiries and their success is paying dividends. With film offices like this looking after such a rich and diverse area, it helps to make our job a much easier and pleasurable one.”
