Everyone is welcome to come along to the ‘Shinewater Shape Up’ event on Friday 2 June to help pick up glass and plastic litter in Shinewater Park.
Park Rangers Andy & Jessie will be at the Larkspur Drive entrance to the Park at 09.45am to meet all volunteers.
They ask that everyone should wear sensible footwear and that children under 12 years must be accompanied. Bags, litter pickers and gloves will be provided.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Economy, Tourism and Environment, Councillor David Elkin, said “This is always a very successful event and this year will be concentrating on saving God’s little creatures. I am sure all volunteers will find the day very interesting, and I would encourage everyone to come along and join in.”
The picture shows dead voles which are attracted to the sweet liquid in discarded cola and fizzy drink bottles, they then become trapped and sadly die. This results in fewer small mammals for birds of prey to feed on which in turn means a reduction in numbers of these beautiful birds.
The event is sponsored by Environment Agency Action Earth 2006. Call 01323 415 464 for more details.
