As part of Eastbourne’s Crime Reduction Partnership work, two new CCTV cameras have been added to the 15 that are already situated throughout the town.
Eastbourne’s Crime Reduction Partnership funded the purchase and installation of the cameras which are situated on the junction of Ashford Road and Susan’s Road and the junction of Pevensey Road and Cavendish Road.
As with all CCTV cameras, they have been sited in an area which has previously been a hotspot for anti social behaviour and other associated crimes.
Already they have proved to be very successful and have helped to provide evidence that has led to several arrests. Not only do the cameras help to detect crime but they have also proven to be a great deterrent. Remotely monitored and operated from the CCTV room in Grove Road, they can be used for general observations or to zoom in on specific incidents.
Brian Watkinson, CCTV Manager for Brighton and Eastbourne said, “The new cameras have proved to be a valuable addition to the system in Eastbourne and have already been responsible for a number of arrests of persons involved in Crime and Disorder.”
Steve Brookman Eastbourne District Commander said, “cctv cameras are an effective tool in our fight against crime and disorder. The new cameras will assist us even further in deterring anti-social behaviour and providing reassurance to the public.”
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Health and Community Services Councillor Sandie Howlett said, “I am pleased to see the introduction of more CCTV within the town centre area where residents are concerned about the level of anti-social behaviour. Any deterrent is helpful and will hopefully be welcomed by local people. The Crime Reduction Partnership is actively seeking ways to prevent and deter antisocial behaviour and crime and this is another example of their effective working.”
