Eastbourne Brings Real Time Weather to the Web

Following the longstanding British obsession with weather, visitors to Eastbourne can now check up to the minute conditions for themselves, by visiting real time weather page on www.visiteastbourne.com.

Eastbourne’s official visitor site run by Eastbourne Borough Council now shows live data including temperature, UV, rain, wind, humidity and atmospheric pressure.  Using data collected by the UK Weather Shop, the UK’s largest specialist retailer of its kind, based at Sovereign Harbour, visitors to the site can also check records and obtain a five day weather forecast, provided by BBC Weather.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin said “This is ideal for those who enjoy windsurfing, sunbathing or even flying a kite.  With so many outdoor activities in Eastbourne, the weather is an important factor in deciding what to do during your day and with the best sunshine record in the UK, the solar and UV readings will be important in ensuring you slap on enough sun protection.”

Last July, MSN Search reported that Britons are obsessed with checking weather, losing weight and researching places to visit.  The search engine in particular highlighted Eastbourne as one of the most popular UK sites, even beating destinations in Spain, France and Cyprus.

So far in just a month the weather station has recorded temperatures ranging from 10.2°C to a wind chill of -6.9°C and users can even alternate the data display between their choice of metric and imperial, just with the click of a button.

Opened by Michael Fish last April, the UK Weather Shop provides more weather instruments, barometers and weather stations than any other retailer in the UK.  Attracting shoppers online worldwide, the company are also proud recipients of both Eastbourne and Sussex Business Awards.  Alistair Barron of UK Weather Shop said “We are pleased to be working in conjunction with Eastbourne Borough Council to bring up to the minute real time weather information to the visiteastbourne website.”

As well as checking the weather, visitors to www.visiteastbourne.com can also book accommodation online and search from hundreds of events, attractions, shops, restaurants and leisure activities.  Linking to Tourist Information Centres across the UK via England.net, travellers thinking of heading to the South Coast can also browse live Eastbourne room availability.
