Panto Pays for Better Seats

The spectacular pantomime at the Devonshire Park Theatre, along with some particularly successful “one-nighters” at the Congress Theatre, has resulted in an impressive financial surplus of over £80,000 on the show account.  As a result of this improved financial performance, £27,000 will be spent on refurbishing seats in the Congress auditorium and on health and safety works in the Devonshire Park.  This will help to ensure that high standards of comfort and safety are maintained for the increasing number of patrons regularly visiting our Theatres.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for Finance and E-Government, Councillor Chris Williams says, “This is excellent news! it benefits the town in two ways. Firstly, being able to provide an upgrade to seating now rather than later as planned. It also means that we will not have to find the money from our future capital budget, helping to relieve pressures in that area.”

In addition to our thriving Theatres, both the Cavendish and Hampden Park Sports Centres continue to deliver successful programmes that enjoy high levels of usage.  This accelerates wear and tear and therefore, £13,000 has been earmarked from the current budget surplus to reseal the sports halls at both of these popular centres.
