Motoring Extravaganza revs up for May Day Holiday

The Austin 7s Club with Tourism Director
Eastbourne’s Western Lawns will showcase some of the finest vehicles of the Twentieth Century this May Bank Holiday as Magnificent Motors returns for its third year of fun fuelled festivities.

This year’s event looks set to be another roaring success following the 25,000 strong crowds of 2005.  More than 400 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, military vehicles and steam traction engines are expected to come to Eastbourne for the free motoring spectacular, taking place over the Bank Holiday from Sunday 30th April to Monday 1st May.

Eastbourne Borough Council Director of Tourism, Economy & Environment, Norman Kinnish says, “This event really lives up to its name – magnificent!  Last year was a huge success and the Western Lawns are a glorious location to bring together such a fascinating collection of motors.  We look forward to welcoming the exhibitors, visitors and vehicles alike!”

Organised by Eastbourne Borough Council in association with Eastbourne Historic Vehicle Club, ELC and East Sussex Omnibus Society, the largest free motoring event of the South Coast will commence on the Sunday with a vehicle cavalcade from Wartling Road up to the Western Lawns.

The 13 strong Austin 7 Club have already confirmed their appearance at this year’s show. All cars are over 70 years in age ranging in years from 1927-1936 and all in prime restored glory.

As well as the stunning Austins, visitors can expect to see a variety of waxed and buffed vehicles ranging from vintage Rolls Royces to classic Chevrolets, half century old Morris Minors to a Sebring 2002, plus numerous other car clubs including the recently confirmed South Downs MG club whose cars span over 44 years in age.

The seafront will be a hive of activity over the weekend with a French Market on the promenade selling a delightful array of continental treats and produce, while a licensed bar on site will quench all thirsts.  Various stalls, funfair rides, historic bus trips and live entertainment will ensure there is something to do for the whole family.
