Officers at the council are becoming increasingly concerned over the anti-social behaviour of many living in the town centre who may unwittingly still put their refuse out in black sacks without realising that they are being attacked by seagulls and other vermin.
These pictures were taken at 7am on Monday in Pevensey Road and nearby Susans Road.
Unassuming residents have obviously placed their refuse out for collection on Monday morning which has resulted in litter and domestic waste covering these streets in many locations.
Council officers will be investigating the sources of the waste and encouraging residents to store their waste correctly in the wheeled bins provided.
They will also be considering the use of new fixed penalty fines which can now be issued by council officers against people who drop litter or deposit waste in the street.
Councillor David Elkin said, “I visited Susans Road on Monday morning and could not believe my eyes. Litter and waste was strewn across the street and the wheeled bins where provided were overflowing.”
He also added, “As a council we are not prepared to tolerate this nature of anti-social crime and if it does not cease officers will be pursuing residents with fixed penalty fines of £75 for each offence.”
