With all media eyes on the Hastings Direct International Tennis Championships finals this Saturday 24 June, be sure to look to the lunchtime skies as Eastbourne launches the new feature for its summer airshow.
Just before the ladies final begins, a Harvard aeroplane will soar across the seafront at 12:30 giving audiences a taster for Airbourne’s new Historic Thursday which will open the biggest free seafront airshow taking place August 17 - 20.
Following the flypast the two remaining female titans will battle it out on Centre Court for tennis’ prestigious pre Wimbledon title, organised by the Lawn Tennis Association.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin says, "The Hastings Direct Tennis Championship is such a focal event and as the atmosphere builds up for the grand final it will be great to have an unexpected flying visitor overhead. With some of the most successful tennis stars from around the world this will be a truly spectacular day."
To see more displays by the Harvard aeroplane, visitors should head back down to Eastbourne on August 17 when the WWII fighter-trainer will be returning along with other vintage features, including a spectacular Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, with a Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, a display from a Mustang and an exclusive appearance from the Royal Navy Historic Flight.
A stunning display will also feature from a Spitfire duo to commemorate the Spitfire’s 70th Birthday. To mark this double celebration the Spitfire Hospitality Club will be offering a special buffet menu in the dining marquees, where guests will be treated to a fantastic menu and uninterrupted flying views.
The Hastings Direct International Tennis Championships begins a packed schedule of events for Eastbourne’s summer with July’s Davis Cup, Extreme Sports & Skating and Airbourne, plus weekly concerts at the open-air Bandstand.
