Airbourne launches with a Salute to the Past

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Airbourne, Eastbourne’s International Airshow, will this year be launched by the brand new Classic & Historic Thursday with a fine display of classic military aircraft and vintage displays.  As well as tributes and commemorative flights, a unique display by a Spitfire Duo will feature to celebrate an incredible 70 years of the historic aircraft.

The Spitfire is one of the most famous fighter planes of all time and its role in helping to win the Battle of Britain makes it a truly patriotic symbol.  As part of the biggest FREE seaside airshow in the world, the Spitfire Duo will take to the skies twice on Thursday, featuring both in a special birthday display and as part of the moving Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin says, “Airbourne is a truly fantastic show.  Classic & Historic Thursday will be a welcome addition in paying tribute to all those planes that defended Britain and made the aviation of today possible.”

The FREE four day airshow begins on Thursday 17 and culminates with a spectacular fly past and firework display on Sunday 20.  Other vintage aircraft lined up for the day include a Mustang, a WWII fighter-trainer Harvard, and an exclusive appearance from the Royal Navy Historic Flight.

To mark the celebrations the Spitfire Club will be offering hospitality in the exclusive comfort of Eastbourne’s classic Bandstand.  Guests can enjoy a fantastic buffet menu in the dining marquees whilst enjoying uninterrupted views of the displays from the private balcony area.

The remaining three days of the airshow hold a packed timetable of events, with the return of the ever popular Red Arrows and last years enormously successful Eurofighter Typhoon – this year brought back with the generosity of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association.
