Bourne to be a winner

Combine sun, sea and sand with the youngest ever World Superbike Champion – add a few potential grid girls – and you have all the ingredients for a fun-filled day at the beach.

With backing from Eastbourne Borough Council, leading Superbike star James Toseland will be on the beach on Wednesday 2 August. He will spend the afternoon searching for a grid girl for the European round of the Corona Extra FIM Superbike World Championship.

Potential grid girls should come down to Eastbourne beach, between the pier and bandstand, between 12.30pm and 3.30pm to have their photograph taken with James. The winner will receive VIP tickets to the race on Sunday 6 August and also join James on the starting line.

The Brands Hatch round of the Superbike World Championship is one of the highlights of the motorcycle racing season. Over 100,000 spectators are expected to flock to the circuit to cheer on the riders, including fellow British star Chris Walker, and to soak up the atmosphere.

James is currently third in the series ahead of the eighth round at Brands Hatch. It is his second event on home soil this year and his favourite circuit. With more racing experience than many riders twice his age, he is more than prepared for the challenge.

“Tensions are running high for the race,” says James. “Taking part in the Eastbourne event will be a welcome break from race preparations and I am looking forward to meeting the girls.”
