Even more Eastbourne residents will find it easier to recycle their plastic bottles as plastic bottle banks arrive at Morrisons Supermarket in Old Town, and Fisherman’s Green Car Park.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet spokesperson for Economy, Tourism and the Environment Councillor David Elkin, says, “This is an excellent opportunity for all Old Town residents to recycle their plastic waste. These bins have been a massive success across the rest of the town and we are very grateful to Morrisons for their help in our recycling scheme. The town is currently recycling well over 20% of its waste - thanks to the magnificent efforts of residents."
These banks will take all plastic bottles, from milk, lemonade and water to shampoo and bleach. The colour of the bottle does not make a difference, they can all be recycled! Containers that cannot be recycled yet include yoghurt pots, margarine and ice-cream tubs.
The collected bottles are taken to Light Bros. in Lewes where they are bulked up before being separated and sent on for reprocessing.
Plastic bottles can be turned into many items such as compost bins, furniture, toner cartridges, fleece jackets, sleeping-bag filling; even Eastbourne residents green recycling boxes are made from recycled plastic!
Eastbourne residents are already recycling around one tonne of plastic bottles each week! As around 20,000 plastic bottles are needed to make one tonne of plastic bottles, it’s hoped that even more bottles can be saved from the landfill site.
