Eastbourne Borough Council Leader Ian Lucas has written to the Leader of East Sussex County Council, urging him to support changes to their system of planning meetings.
‘At the present time, residents are unable to speak at the planning meetings at County, although they are at Eastbourne’, says Cllr Lucas. ‘I believe that in the interests of democracy it’s vital that residents are able to make their views known at planning meetings. At Eastbourne we regularly have members of the public addressing the committee, and that is a good thing – it’s about time the County Council did this as well’.
The letter to Councillor Peter Jones expresses concern that members of the public are not allowed to address the committee. It also highlights that if residents representation at meetings is properly regulated with time limits and numbers per application it would make the process much more open and transparent.
