Business Continuity Seminars

Dealing with the unpredictable is a key element of business planning. To help local companies plan for unforeseen challenges, Eastbourne Borough Council, in partnership with Eastbourne & District Enterprise Agency, provided a free “Business As Usual” seminar to advise on the importance of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Economy, Councillor David Elkin says, “Having attended one of the seminars and being the owner of a small business in Eastbourne, I found the information very useful and it certainly focused my mind on some very simple changes I could make to help protect my customer base.”

The seminars took place on Tuesday 24th January at the International Lawn Tennis Centre and at The Kings Centre. The seminars highlighted that many local companies are not as aware of potential problems as they should be. Many attendees were surprised at the day to day issues which could so easily impact on their ability to continue business and how their customer database or IT system could be at risk.

The seminars were arranged before the explosion in Hemel Hempstead, which subsequently proved the timing was all the more appropriate, with many local companies and brand names in the Eastbourne area affected by events at Buncefield Fuel Depot which temporarily closed down head offices, distribution centres and even the M1.

The promotion of business continuity forms part of the statutory duties for local government under new Civil Contingencies.
