Eastbourne residents can now use their Leisure Card to enjoy a 50% discount on the standard ticket price to the Redoubt Fortress & Military Museum. Adult tickets for card holders are now just £2, seniors £1.50 and children £1, making a visit to the fortress even better value than ever before. In endorsing the new incentive scheme, Councillor Sandie Howlett has said, “The Redoubt Fortress is an essential part of Eastbourne’s heritage. We hope that this new Leisure Card incentive will encourage local residents to re-discover the fortress and enjoy visiting this impressive piece of history on their doorstep.”
Built 200 years ago to defend Eastbourne’s coast from the threat of invasion, the Redoubt Fortress now provides the perfect setting for the largest military museum in the South East. Visitors can uncover the 200 year old history of this impressive circular building and the men who lived there. They can also find out more about our local soldiers, The Royal Sussex Regiment as well as the famous cavalry regiment, The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars and other armed forces including the Royal Air Force, Artillery and Engineers based in Sussex. For 2006 there is also a special exhibition: For Valour – 150 Years of the Victoria Cross celebrates the anniversary of Britain’s highest award for bravery.
The Residents Leisure Cards are issued by Eastbourne Borough Council and offer a range of discounts for local people. To get your card just take your current council tax bill to the Redoubt Fortress or one of the other issuing locations which include: Tourist Information Centre, the Sovereign Centre or Hampden Park Sports Centre.
