Mayor Supports His Charity’s Event

The Worshipful the Mayor of Eastbourne will attend the second RNLI Regatta during the bank holiday weekend.  The event is aiming to be bigger than last year and is hoping to raise more than the £12,000 that was raised at last year’s event

Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Colin Belsey, says, “I am delighted to be supporting the guys at the Lifeboat Regatta, especially as the R.N.L.I. is my chosen charity for my Mayoral year. I do hope that Eastbourne will turn out in force to support this great weekend. It sounds like there will be fun for all and some competitive racing to go with it.

Let’s hope the weather is good and that everyone enjoys the Regatta and there are no 'shouts' for the whole weekend.”

The Mayor will attend the final day of the three day event during the Bank Holiday weekend, based around Sovereign Harbour and along Eastbourne seafront.

All the money raised will go towards the upkeep of the Eastbourne all weather lifeboat “The Royal Thames,” and the Inshore Lifeboat, “The Joan and Ted Wiseman 50” and their crew.

On the water, residents and visitors will be able to see yacht races over the three days with people taking part from along the south coast.  There will also be rowing boat and fishing boat races during the weekend as well as lots of onshore activities.
