Benches have been moved from several locations across the town to deter street drinkers from hanging around. Local residents contacted the Council about the issue of people drinking in the street outside Trinity Trees Church.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Spokesperson for the Environment, Tourism and Economy Councillor David Elkin says, “We have listened to residents concerns about street drinkers using the benches all day in a very prominent part of the town. We have not taken the decision lightly to remove the benches as we are aware it will move the issue to another part of the town.”
The benches were moved following consultation with the nearby residents and the people who donated the benches.
