Forecast of Summer Lightning followed by an Iceberg

Drinking Summer Lightning
Eastbourne’s heatwave is set to be chased away by “Summer Lightning” and then an “Iceberg” when the Beer Festival returns in October. These are just a few of the beers rolling out the barrel to attend this year’s biggest beer festival on the South Coast.

Currently in its fourth year, Eastbourne’s Oktoberfest style Beer Festival will run from 12-14 October at the Winter Gardens and tickets are on sale now.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor David Elkin says, “The announcement of the beer list is something we all look forward to! Knowing what will be at the festival to sample is a lot of the enjoyment of the event, along with the wonderful atmosphere. Our partners CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) have done a superb job in sourcing over 120 of the best British beers. It is great to see such a good line up once again.”

The festival beers expected include many favourites from past years, including “Side Pocket for a Toad” which is sure to be enjoyed in more than pocket sized glasses, although “What the Fox's Hat” may be more your cup of “TEA”. Appearing again is the Sussex Bar, sponsored by Whites Microbrewery in Bexhill, which makes beer available by hand pump and a popular range will be supplied by Harveys of Lewes. To keep adding to the variety, it is hoped that new beers will be introduced as a result of the Great British Beer Festival, due to take place at the beginning of August in Earl’s Court, with some of the category winners heading to Eastbourne in October.

Returning to the festival are the popular wine and international bottled beer bars with more exotic offerings from around the world, perfect for those wanting a taste of classic dark Bavarian beers, fruity Belgian beers or the range of new world wine. Other entertainment is provided in the form of live music from the Oompah band as well as jazz, blues and folk and the chance to play traditional pub games like Shove Ha’penny and Toad in the Hole.

After last years quick sell out, festival goers should book early to avoid disappointment. To book tickets telephone 01323 412000 or for more information visit www.eastbournebeerfestival.co.uk
