James Toseland with grid girl Mica
Eastbourne was buzzing this week when World Superbike supremo James Toseland raced into town in search of a grid girl for a forthcoming race at Brands Hatch.

The former World Superbike Champion took time out from his race preparations and was joined on the beach by a host of local beauties. All of the girls posed for the camera in a bid to join James on the grid at one of Britain’s premier sporting events of the year. The lucky 18-year-old, Mica Marlow from Thakeham in West Sussex, was announced as the winner after the event.

Mica was delighted to hear that she had been selected. “I’m so excited, I’ve always wanted to do something like this,” says Mica. “I am really looking forward to the event, joining James on the grid and wishing him well for the race.”

The European round of the World Superbike Championship at Brand Hatch is one of the highlights of the motorcycle racing season. The circuit is experiencing record pre-event ticket sales ahead of the race. Over 100,000 spectators are expected to flock to the circuit to soak up the carnival atmosphere.

James is currently lying third in the series ahead of the eighth round. It is his second event on home soil this season and his favourite circuit.

“Tensions are running high for Sunday, so Eastbourne was welcome relief for me,” says James. “There was a good turnout for the competition and plenty of fans also came down to Eastbourne to wish me well. I am looking forward to welcoming Mica onto the starting grid. I’m sure she’ll do an excellent job.”
