A birth certificate will show the following information which may help you in your family history research:
- The registration district, the sub-district and the county
- The year
- The date and the address of the birth
- Names, if any.
- The sex
- Name and surname of the father
- Name, surname and maiden name of the mother. May also give the mother's address.
- Occupation of the father.
- The signature, description (i.e. relationship to the newborn) and address of the informant.
- The date the birth was registered
- The signature of the registrar
- If no name was given at the time of registration, it can be added up to 12 months after the birth and the certificate has an additional column for this.
Ordering Copies of Certificates
Eastbourne Borough Council does not issue birth certificates.
You can get certificates for Eastbourne from the Eastbourne Register Office when Parish details and dates are known.
The General Records Office also now offers the facility to order certificates online.
