The Assessment Sub Committee deals with the first stage of any complaint submitted to the Standards Committee alleging that a councillor may have failed to comply with the code of conduct for members. It deals with the initial assessment of a complaint and will determine what action if any should be taken.
The Sub-Committee has 3 members which are selected from the Independent representatives and elected members of the Standards Committee. An Independent representative chairs the meeting.
Meetings of the Assessment Sub-Committee are held in private and are not open to the public.
The Sub-Committee's documents are not published but a written summary of a Sub-Committee's assessment of a complaint are available to download.
The summary will not name the Member where to do so would in the view of the sub-committee prejudice any subsequent investigation or otherwise would not be in the public interest.
