Other People's Data

In the majority of cases Personal Data about someone else will not be disclosed, however some examples of when we might consider releasing Personal Data are mentioned below.

  • If you have given written consent for someone to ask for Personal Data about you, the Council will release information to that person or organisation. Proof that they have your signed authority is required.

  • If you are the parent or guardian of a child under the age of 14 you may make a request on their behalf for any Personal Data held by the Council about them. Proof that you are the child’s legal parent or guardian will be required.

  • If you have a valid power of attorney for an individual you may make a request on their behalf. Evidence of a power of attorney being validated will be required before Personal Data is released.

The Council will give serious consideration to the validity of disclosing Personal Data where the person asking for the data is not the person that the Personal Data is about.

Personal Data is sometimes shared between Council departments and some external bodies such as the Police or Social Services. This is done in accordance with our Data Protection Policy.
