Mayoral Activities for May 2009

Visit to Town Hall by Sovereign Harbour Social Club for Older People

The Mayor attended 31 engagements in May 2009.  A selection of engagements are detailed below.

On 1 May 2009, the Mayor invited the Lord Lieutenant, the High Sheriff of East Sussex and other Mayor’s from across the county, to join him for a tour of Towner.  The visitors were very impressed with the new facility and the feedback received both during the evening and after the event was excellent.

The Mayor was very happy to be asked to present prizes to winners of the Eastbourne Music and Arts Festival at a recent coffee morning.  Unfortunately the prize giving had been delayed and could not take place at the actual festival due to sickness within the organising committee.

The Royal British Legion recently held a conference in Eastbourne and both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were pleased to play a part in their conference events.  The Mayor and Mayoress were treated to an evening of musical entertainment on the first night with a concert by the Central Band of the Royal British Legion.  The Deputy Mayor attended the following morning and officially opened the conference.  This was Councillor Heaps’ first official engagement as Deputy Mayor.  On the final day, the Mayor was honoured to lay a wreath at the War Memorial, alongside other members of the Royal British Legion.

On 28 May 2009 the Mayor was pleased to host a small reception for members of the Sovereign Harbour Social Club for Older People.  The members were invited to be guests of the Mayor following a previous visit to one of the Social Club’s meetings in April.  They were treated to an informative tour of the Town Hall and had afternoon tea in the Mayor’s Parlour.  The afternoon visit was enjoyed by all.
