Mayoral Activities for March 2009

Mayor laying wreath at Hampden Park War Memorial
The Mayor attended 26 engagements in March 2009.  A selection of engagements are detailed below.

The Mayor was pleased to be given the opportunity to attend one of Eastbourne Borough Football Club’s matches, following their visit to the Mayor’s Parlour last year.  He chose to attend a match at Priory Lane against Oxford United on Tuesday 3 March.  Unfortunately the local club lost 3-0 on this occasion.

Eastbourne was graced with a Royal presence on Wednesday 11 March as HRH The Earl of Wessex paid a visit.  His Royal Highness was attending a business lunch in aid of the East Sussex Duke of Edinburgh Award, of which he is a trustee, at the Grand Hotel.  The Mayor and Mayoress were pleased to be in the official line-up welcoming His Royal Highness to Eastbourne.

The Mayor’s Charity Ball took place on Friday 13 March at the Winter Garden, raising funds for the Mayor’s chosen charity, Eastbourne and District Alzheimer’s Society.  The evening was a great success, with over 300 people attending, and raising over £6,200.00 for the charity.

On Saturday 28 March the Mayor attended a Rededication of the Hampden Park War Memorial, and laid a wreath alongside the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Peter Field, and other dignitaries.  The rededication service was conducted by the Reverend Howard John and Father Robin Tree from St Mary's in the Park.  The memorial had fallen into a state of disrepair and has now been restored to its former glory thanks to The Friends of Hampden Park.
