The Mayor attended 42 engagements in April 2009. A selection of engagements are detailed below.
One of the first engagements for April took place aboard HMS Puncher. The Mayor travelled on board Eastbourne’s affiliated ship from Brighton Marina to SovereignHarbour, and was escorted by three other Navy Training Vessels. The ships remained at Sovereign Harbour for two nights and the crews from the four ships joined the Mayor for a reception in the Mayor’s Parlour.
The Mayor and Mayoress were delighted to attend the very successful launch of the Towner on 3 April, along with almost 1000 other guests. He officially opened the new centre on 4 April.
The Sea Cadets held a gun-pull on the seafront on Easter Monday to raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity. This was a great success and raised over £300 for the charity. Also held in aid of the Mayor’s Charity was a concert by the Renaissance Singers. This was a wonderful evening of singing and raised another £300 for the charity.
On 23 April the Mayor made a visit to Ocklynge School and spoke to the pupils about his role as Mayor, and the Mayoress spoke about Alzheimer’s and the Alzheimer’s. The following day the pupils held a mufti-day in aid of the Mayor’s Charity and were delighted to present a cheque for over £800.
