Born 22nd August 1928 at Chelmsford Hall, Carlisle Road, Eastbourne.  Third, and youngest, son of Colonel Leonard Stevens OBE, TD, DL, JP, and Mrs Nancy Stevens.

Educated at Knockmaroon Kindergarten, Enys Road, and St. Augustine’s pre-preparatory school, Chesterfield Road to 1937, then Aldwick Grange, Crowborough and Eagle House, Crowthorne, preparatory Schools to 1942.

1940 - Evacuated to Wellington, Somerset
1946 - Returned to Eastbourne                                 
1942 - 1946 Educated at WellingtonCollege, Berkshire                                     
Served in Royal Sussex Regiment
1946 - 1948 (Officer Cadet) Attached to 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion

1949 - 1950 Agriculture at Reading University                       
1951 - 1954 Geography at Oxford University (St Cathreine's)                      
1954 - 1955 Teaching Diploma Course: Oxford

Boxing - Represented College Colours 1942 – 1946 – Ridsdale Medal. ABA Referee 1951
Played for Reading and Oxford Universities and Sussex, and Eastbourne between 1948 and 1970s.  Captain 1956 – 1961.  England Final Trial, reserve.
Secretary Occasionals Hockey Club 1954 - Toured Holland with OxfordUniversity 1955 with Occasionals 52/53/54, with Kookaburras Hockey Club (Oxford/Cambridge Team) v Devon & Cornwall Services teams.
Cricket - Played for Eastbourne 1948 – 1960s.  Cryptics C.C 1950s and 60s.  South Oxfordshire Amateurs C.C. 1950s.
Skiing - 1949 – 1993.
Tennis & Squash - 1940s – 1970s
Amateur Football - 1950s Football Association Referee and Coach
Represented St Catherine’s at Hockey, Soccer, Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and Squash
